Marcus Rashford drops hint over Man Utd return after Barcelona win La Liga

Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford says winning the La Liga title was the ‘perfect ending’ to his spell at Barcelona.

Rashford scored a brilliant free-kick as Barca beat Real Madrid 2-0 on Sunday and clinched their 29th La Liga title with three games to spare.

England international Rashford put Barcelona ahead inside ten minutes before Ferran Torres added a second as Hansi Flick’s side cruised to a comfortable El Clasico win at the Nou Camp.

After retaining the La Liga trophy, Barcelona are now seven league titles behind record winners Real Madrid.

Speaking after the game, Rashford admitted he wanted to extend his stay at Barcelona but suggested that was far from certain.

‘This is the perfect way I want it to end,’ Rashford told ESPN. ‘I’m very happy, I just want to enjoy today.

‘I live in the moment. At the end of the season we will see. I came here to win and we do this, so I’m very happy. It’s an incredible feeling.

‘The feeling is amazing. It’s been a long season with ups and downs, but I think we deserved to win [La Liga].’

Asked in the mixed zone whether he would still be a Barcelona player come the start of next season, Rashford added: ‘I don’t know.

‘I am not a magician, but if I was, I would stay. We will see. I came here to win. I want to win as many things as I can.

‘This is one more to add to this. This is a wonderful team, they’re going to win so much in the future; to be a part of that would be special.’

Rashford joined Barcelona on loan last summer after spending the second-half of last season at Aston Villa.

The 28-year-old made over 400 appearances for boyhood club Manchester United but slipped down the pecking order under former boss Ruben Amorim.

It has been suggested that Michael Carrick will try to bring Rashford back to Old Trafford should he get the United job on a permanent basis at the end of the season.

But Rashford has repeatedly made it clear he wants to sign a permanent transfer with Barcelona and head coach Hansi Flick would welcome that outcome.

‘I’m very happy with Marcus,’ Flick said after Barca’s title win. ‘He has shown his quality and he scored an important goal.

‘I can’t say anything about his future, we have to focus on the matches until the end of the season.’
