Indonesia's Prabowo, Germany's Steinmeier meet in Jakarta

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier held a one-on-one meeting at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta

Following an official welcoming ceremony, the two leaders entered the palace, where President Steinmeier signed the guest book, accompanied by President Prabowo.

The two then shook hands and posed for an official photograph.

Afterward, President Prabowo and President Steinmeier held a private, one-on-one meeting in the Indonesian president's office.

The meeting is expected to further strengthen the strategic partnership between Indonesia and Germany across various sectors.

During Steinmeier's visit, both nations will emphasize their shared goal of expanding cooperation in business, energy, climate action, skilled labor recruitment, and culture.

In addition, Indonesia and Germany will underscore their joint commitment to democracy, a rules-based order, and robust multilateral engagement in the Indo-Pacific.

President Steinmeier is also scheduled to participate in a discussion with experts from local think tanks to address issues on middle powers and Germany's role in a dynamic global order.

Accompanied by First Lady Elke Büdenbender, Steinmeier earlier arrived at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in Jakarta on Monday at 9 a.m. local time, where the Indonesian National Armed Forces welcomed the German leader with an honor guard ceremony.

To secure his state visit, the Jakarta Metropolitan Police have deployed 585 combined personnel consisting of 490 personnel from the traffic, public order, and intelligence and security directorates and 95 personnel from local police forces.
