Man Utd have made six signings, let 14 players leave and could still secure seven transfers

 Michael Carrick has been busy building his Manchester United squad for the upcoming 2026/27 season, with a number of transfers heading in and out of Old Trafford. The new club confirmed his permanent stay as manager towards the end of last season, following a successful stint in temporary charge since January.

A number of stars have returned for pre-season training already, including out-of-favour winger Marcus Rashford. The 28-year-old is said to be "excited" to work under the ex-United captain next season, with The Athletic reporting that the academy graduate is looking forward to the upcoming campaign.

The likes of Casemiro and Jadon Sancho have exited the building in Manchester following the expiry of their contracts, with 12 more also no longer at Old Trafford. But with the Premier League season beginning on August 22 against Hull City, Carrick will be keen to bring more stars in quickly.

Who have Man Utd signed so far?

Andrey Santos was the first signing of the Carrick era, joining from Chelsea for a £50 million fee. The midfielder has been a constant presence in United's pre-season fixtures and is confident he can replace Casemiro as the No. 6 this season.

Speaking after the 1-1 draw with Paris Saint-Germain, Santos said: "I prefer playing deep like a number six. I try help my teammates without the ball and with the ball I love breaking the lines. For me Casemiro is a legend. Now he's gone and I'm here. I feel that I can do like Casemiro did last season."

Goalkeeper Karl Darlow was next to join the squad, leaving Leeds on a free transfer and heading to Old Trafford. Aston Villa's Youri Tielemans was the second midfielder to hop on the Carrick train, with United exercising the £35m release clause to sign the 29-year-old.

Youth signings Tynan Thompson and Kit Margetson also joined from Tottenham and Swansea City, respectively. United most recently secured Cristian Orozco from Fortaleza CEIF, with the 18-year-old midfielder joining the United academy to gain experience in England.

Who has left Man Utd?

A whopping 14 players have left United this summer, including a few big names on the wage bill. Casemiro joined Inter Miami on a free transfer, taking £350,000 off the weekly salary output.

Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia and Malachi Sharpe have all left upon the expiry of their contracts and are without a club for the time being. Radek Vitek recently joined Middlesbrough, with reports claiming that an initial fee of £7m had been agreed, which could double if performance bonuses are met.

In terms of loans, Solomon Honor has moved to Southport, Sekou Kone has arrived at Lausanne-Sport and Andre Onana returned to Trabzonspor for a second temporary spell. Altay Bayindir joined Celta Vigo on loan earlier this week and Elyh Harrison headed north to spend the season at Greenock Morton.

Sonny Aljofree has moved to Rotherham United on a free transfer, with James Bailey heading to Stockport County in a similar deal. Tyler Fredricson has ended his eight-year association with United by joining Lausanne-Sport on a permanent deal in Switzerland.

Finally, Rasmus Hojlund joined Napoli following a successful loan in Italy. The Serie A side had a £38m obligation-to-buy clause, provided they qualified for the Champions League.

This was achieved after they finished second in the 2025/26 campaign, and Hojlund confirmed his move by scoring against Pisa to secure the European spot. Writing on Instagram in May, the Denmark international said: "This goal felt symbolic because it means two things. We now secured Champions League with Napoli, which means because of my contract I’m now officially a Napoli player and I’m saying goodbye to Manchester United.

"My childhood dream came true by playing at Old Trafford in a red jersey. So the goal today symbolises a new confident start, in which I will give everything for the time ahead to Napoli, and a thank you to all the fans, players and staff of Manchester United who made the dream I had as a kid come true. It’s time for new dreams, so let’s chase them."

Seven transfers that can still be done

More transfers could still be achieved at United, with potentially three more incoming and four heading out the exit door. The Red Devils are currently working on a deal to bring Louis Page to the club.

The Leicester City midfielder has become an impressive talent despite his club's relegation to League One. The 18-year-old was named EFL Apprentice of the Year and has already made 21 senior appearances so far.

BBC Sport reports that talks are ongoing, with Aston Villa and Arsenal also interested, but United are the frontrunners in the transfer conversation. The club are also looking at fullbacks to bolster their defensive department with Jorge Salinas emerging as a target.

Previous reports have claimed that the left-back is regarded as a huge talent and could provide United with a long-term plan to replace Luke Shaw. Racing Santander sporting director Chema Aragon has made it clear that clubs will have to reach their £13.7m release clause if they plan to sign the defender, adding: "There is nothing we can do if a big star appears."

Lewis Hall remains the primary target for United, but Newcastle are adamant the 21-year-old is not for sale. The transfers of Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes have prompted the Magpies to close ranks and try to keep their remaining key stars at St James' Park this summer.

Myles Lewis-Skelly could be one alternative who can provide proven Premier League experience in place of Hall, with United being offered the opportunity to sign the 19-year-old this week. Following the arrival of Bruno Guimaraes, the Gunners have opened up to the prospect of selling the young star this summer.

Lewis-Skelly can operate as a full-back as well as a midfielder and could be a versatile addition to Carrick's squad. One more midfielder is expected to arrive, with Manu Kone also having been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford during this window.

Reports suggest that the Roma star has emerged as a midfield target, and Corriere dello Sport claims that personal terms have been agreed. However, the Serie A side will reportedly demand up to £51m (€60m) for his services.

Lamine Camara has also been linked with United as a possible alternative, with The Standard reporting that he will cost at least £42.7m (€50m). With Page looking likely to be an academy addition, another midfielder and a left-back could wrap up United's summer incoming business.

But with this amount potentially coming in, Carrick will look to offload some stars this summer. Toby Collyer has interest from a number of Championship sides with The Athletic reporting that a loan or permanent move is possible.

Harry Amass is also a subject of transfer interest despite featuring heavily during United's pre-season tour of Europe. It is reported that the club are open to a transfer if the left-back's £6m fee is met, but a loan could also be on the cards.

Joshua Zirkzee has been continuously connected to Juventus in recent months. The Serie A side are considering a loan with obligation to buy, as per The Athletic, with other clubs said to be interested in the striker. Ethan Wheatley is being monitored by Everton currently to bolster their under-21 set-up.
